I am from matching outfits,
from “don’t fight with your sisters” and “one
day you’ll appreciate them”.
I am from homemade ice cream.
(Rock Salt, ice, milk, vanilla, and sugar)
I am from
the redbud tree
in whose branches I climbed and
fell and broke my leg.
I’m from putting on plays with
My
sisters and never getting to be the director.
I’m from avid football fans,
Who both like OSU,
from swimming pool
parties with “no jumping off the roof”.
I’m from pot roast and steak with potatoes,
from “drink your milk” and
“eat your meat”.
I’m from “my boat is not for fishing” and “we’ll camp at the Hilton”.
I am from work hard and save
your money.
I’m from college is a must,
Education can never be stolen from you
and to survive in this world one
must hold a degree.
I’m from two sets of twins,
Kelly and Kim are eighteen months older than me and Michele.
From
my heritage of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, and cancer to my love of life and literature.
In
my closet was frequently a kitten
That I had to return when my mother found it.
I am from catching tadpoles in the
creek with my best friend.
Shooting birds with my water gun,
And locking stray dogs in my backyard.
I’m from
long car rides to Nebraska and Minnesota,
To visit relatives who kiss on both my cheeks.
I am from vacations in Hawaii,
and sight-seeing the US.
From “you must play sports” and dreading music lessons.
Root beer floats by the pool and
chasing the ice cream truck.
I’m from Oreo cookies dunked in my milk, saving Campbell soup labels for my school, and begging
for Lunchables.
I’m from riding my bike to school so I can be home before my sisters,
from being the youngest and
yet the bravest.
From playing Red Rover, Red Rover and
Shopping with my mom at TG&Y.
I’m from MTV and Johnny Carson
From
working on puzzles when it rains
To begging my mom into allowing two friends to stay the night.
I’m from walls filled
with pictures and watching for tornadoes.
That is where I am from.
